About Iqwinder S. Gaheer

Iqwinder S. Gaheer is a son, brother, and lawyer who is passionate about making Peel a better place, and your Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Malton. Iqwinder has lived in Peel since he and his family immigrated to Canada in 1999. Sixteen years ago, Iqwinder’s father, a plumber by trade, started the family’s business in the bath furniture industry in Mississauga-Malton; the business still proudly calls this riding home. Iqwinder now promises to be a strong voice for the community that gave his family so much.

Iqwinder received his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 2019. He also graduated in 2015 from the Schulich School of Business, York University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration.

With his call to the New York Bar in 2020, Iqwinder worked as a lawyer engaged in commercial litigation in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. During law school, he worked at the Massachusetts State Attorney General’s Office and the Massachusetts Superior Court. Passionate about the rights of disparate groups, in his final year of law school, Iqwinder was the Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Human Rights Journal.

Iqwinder fundamentally believes in the Canadian values of acceptance and opportunity. When his father first came to Canada in 1992, that’s all he had, and all he needed. Today, Iqwinder is determined to further those values, to make sure the young people and families of Mississauga-Malton can stay true to who they are and have a real and fair shot at success.
